Both a re-imagining of the series as a whole and a prequel to the first film, Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes blew audiences away with it's visual effects from Weta Digital, especially Andy Serkis' motion captured portrayal as ape liberator Cesar. I always hoped for a sequel, and now my wishes have been answered, with 20th Century Fox announcing a sequel to the 2011 film has been added to their production slate, with a tentative start date for production given for the end of the summer.
There is no word on who from the originals cast and crew will be returning, and even though he was already signed up for a sequel, Serkis' involvement is in doubt due to his commitments to The Hobbit as both productions are in danger of over lapping. There is no word on the story of the sequel, but I assume it will further the apes conquest of the planet, leading to the point where, god damn them all to hell, they blow it up.
