It has been rumored for a while, now Marvel Studio's have officially announced they are moving forward with a movie based on the little known Guardians Of The Galaxy. The characters first appeared in the 60's, and it's likely the studio will go with the newest iteration of the team, that of a proactive force, led by half alien/half human Star Lord, going after threats to the universe before they happen. As the name suggests, the team operate in deepest space and the film will more than likely explore the wider Marvel Universe, something hinted at in the closing credits of The Avengers (or Avengers Assemble for those....oh, you know by now). It also promises an appearance for Thanos, the villain appearing in the aforementioned credit sequence, since one of the members of the team, Drax, was created solely to kill him.
I like that Marvel Studios are trying to construct a cinematic universe similar to the one in the comics, and Guardians Of The Galaxy could be a lot of fun, not least because they count a giant, talking tree and a near insane, gun toting raccoon amongst their members. If these two are kept in the movie, I will be there for every show on opening day.
