Hot Tub Time Machine 2 Review

If the words “Ball Juice” and “Hot Tub” get you all excited, then you’re in for a treat with the sequel nobody asked for. Hot Tub Time Machine 2 has arrived, in what is obvious glitch in the space time continuum.

The movie continues more or less where the original left off with our hapless fuck wits being incredibly successful and wealthy, after changing history in the last movie. Craig Robinson, Clarke Duke and Rob Corddry all reprise their roles with the obvious exception of John Cusack who appears in a photograph only. Robinson’s character Nick, is after recording every huge pop track in history and taking all the credit, and Lou (Corddry) has invented Lougle, with Jacob (Duke) being his long suffering son of sorts. When Lou finds himself in a spot of bother, the unlikely trio find themselves once again time travelling in a hot tub where they have to alter the future in order to save the past - which is really the present..or something. Throw in Adam Scott into the mix and we have a dragged out comedy that minus a ball juice gag and few pairs of tits, never finds it’s feet.

The cast are solid, especially Adam Scott who instantly generates some great chemistry between his time travelling companions. Robinson, Duke and Corddry all have great chemistry, but the same old schtick their characters are given from a story, that absolutely stinks of desperation and mediocrity, gets tiresome and annoying quite quickly.

Fans of the original may take a shine to the second outing, but it’s pacing and plot are tedious at the best of times and on occasion the movie seems to try it’s arm at drama in places. With a running time of 93 minutes, you’ll wish you had your own time travelling hot tub to get those minutes back, and if you want ball juice gags and tits, you’ll get plenty of those from the comfort of your sweat soaked office chair.
