Is James Wan Out Of The Running For Furious 8???

Fast And Furious 7 has made Universal very happy indeed. The movie is the fastest ever to reach a billion dollars and now sits 4th on the highest grossing international list of all time.

All of which means that Universal should be doing everything in their power to sign director James Wan up for the next installment, which already has a release date of less than two years away. Enter Sony into the fray.

Reports today indicate that Wan may be about to be poached by Sony to direct Robotech, a futuristic, live-action blend of Manga madness and eye-popping spectacle. The robot mech warrior franchise is to be built from the ground up as a potential franchise, so it's possible that Wan is attracted to the project because of the potential creative control he would have over it.

The only difficulty will be timing. Wan has a sequel to The Conjuring in the works and there's still a deal that could be hashed out for Furious 8. While Universal will want to continue the success of the latest movie in the franchise, with Vin Diesel and the already established fan base and cast, securing wan's services may not be as important anymore as marketing the movie correctly.

Whatever happens, Wan has Hollywood at his beck and call for a while, and he'd be well within his right to use that to pick and choose a project he feels passionate about. All eyes on the director to see which blockbuster wins out in the coming weeks.
