Danny Boyle Says There Will Be A Trainspotting 2

With Shallow Grave already under his belt, 1996’s Trainspotting announced Danny Boyle’s arrival on the feature film scene in a big way, and even twenty years later, audiences are clambering for the further misadventures of our favourite Edinburgh based drug addicts. Author Irvine Welsh released a sequel, Porno, to the novel the movie was based on in 2002, but a big screen sequel has been something that has so far alluded us. But there seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel. At the Telluride Film Festival for the first ever screening of the upcoming Steve Jobs, as well as to receive the well deserved Telluride Medallion for his amazing body of work, Boyle revealed to Deadline that Trainspotting 2 will happen. At the moment, while Ewan McGregor (Renton), Ewan Bremmer (Spud), Jonny Lee Miller (Sick Boy), and Robert Carlyle (Begbie) all want to return, getting their schedules to align is complicated as Carlyle and Miller are heavily involved in t.v. shows Once Upon A Time and Elementary.

Working from Porno, which sees the boys reunite after a time apart and thrust into the world of pornography, long time Boyle collaborator John Hodge (Trainspotting, A Life Less Ordinary, The Beach, Trance) provides the script, which Boyle describes as ‘terrific’. You get the feeling the director wants to set this up as his next project, and hopefully everything lines up just right, because I think this a movie we all want to see.
