The Best of Irish on Netflix


Don't even go there with the St.Patty's Day shite! Anyway, speaking of St.Patrick's Day, most of Ireland has the day off tomorrow to celebrate it Day, and some may even take Friday off too!   If you are not planning on heading to a parade or a pub, Paddy’s Day maybe a great time to binge on some of your favourite Irish actor’s films or TV shows.   Check out some the great films and television series to watch over the long weekend featuring some of Ireland’s top acting talent including Ireland’s Tourism Ambassador Liam Neeson.

 Ruth Kearney
Flaked – Dubliner Ruth Kearney stars as London, a mysterious new girl in town, in Netflix’s new comedy “Flaked” with Will Arnett.   Set in Venice, California resident and recovering alcoholic Chip (Will Arnett) styles himself as a self-help guru but struggles to keep track of his own lies and half-truths.   All 8 episodes are available to stream on Netflix. 

Dominique McElligott
House of Cards -  Dubliner Dominique McElligott has just joined House of cards Season 4 as Hannah Conway wife of William "Will" Conway, the current Governor of New York and the Republican nominee.  Will is Frank's chief opponent in the race for the Presidency in 2016.   Hannah and Will have two kids Charlie and Lilly. Their youth and strong values pose a huge threat to Frank who is middle age, having marital problems, and has no kids.  Seasons 1-4 are available to stream on Netflix. 

Kerry Condon
Better Call Saul – Tipperary Actress Kerry Condon plays the part of Stacey Ehrmantraut in Better Call Saul.  Stacey was married to Matt, Mike Ehrmantraut’s son and has one Daugher Kayla. Matt was eventually killed after working for two years as a police officer in the State of Philadelphia, Stacey then moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico.     Season 1 is available on Netflix.  Season 2 episodes launch every Tuesday.

Victoria Smurfit
Victoria Smurfit is back in another episode of Once Upon A Time this week, staring as the woman you love to hate - Cruela DeVil.   Cruela originates from the Disney animated movie "One Hundred and One Dalmatians" and is one of the most evil women on Earth!  New episodes of Once Upon A Time launch every week on Netflix.   

Amy Huberman
The Stag tells the story of a groom-to-be who agrees to hold his stag party in the great Irish outdoors, but the weekend takes a turn for the weird when the bride’s (Amy Huberman) uncouth brother shows up. 

Sarah Bolger
The Tudors – Sarah plays the part of Princess Mary Tudor, the only surviving child of Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon, as well as the oldest of the King's children.  Notably, Mary Tudor is the only female character apart from Catherine Brooke to appear in all four seasons.  Sarah appears as a recurring character in Seasons 2, 3 and 4 of The Tudors, spanning some 23 episodes.   Seasons 1-4 are streaming on Netflix.

Saoirse Ronan
Lost River – Oscar nominated actress Saoirse Ronan plays the part of Rat in this American fantasy-neo-noir film written, produced and directed by Ryan Goslin.   In the rotting remains of a once great city, a struggling single mother is forced to take a job at a bizarre cabaret to keep her house and kids.

A Walk Among The Tombstones - A drug kingpin hires a troubled ex-cop Matt Scudder to find his wife’s killers, a hunt that leads to shocking revelations in New York’s underworld

Les Miserables - Ex-convict Jean Valjean tries to build a new life of nobility and compassion, only to find himself relentlessly pursued by a callous police inspector

Nell - Two Doctors are astonished to discover a backwoods North Carolina woman who has formed her own language after being cut off from civilisation.  Stars Jodie Foster & Liam Neeson

Oh What A Lovely War – Based on the stage musical of the same name, director Richard Attenborough’s wry satire is structured around a series of evocative vignettes that focus on the members of the Smith Family during World War 1.

Saving Mr Banks – When Walt Disney sets his sights on obtaining the rights to the children’s classic “Mary Poppins”, the book’s author proves a touch nut to crack.

Peaky Blinders  (Season 1 Available now, Season 2 coming soon) - Ambitious gang leader Thomas Shelby (Cillian Murphy) recognises an opportunity to move up in the world thanks to a missing crate of guns.

Red Eye (Now Streaming) - On a red eye flight, Lisa learns that a fellow passenger plans to murder the deputy secretary of Homeland Security and involve her in the plot.  Stars Rachel McAdams and Cillian Murphy.

Retreat - Whilst visiting a remote Scottish island, a young couple finds an injured man at their door, claiming that a lethal virus has spread through Europe.  Stars Thandie Newton & Cillian Murphy

Gold - A man returns home after a 10 year absence to reconnect with his ex-wife and daughter, but finds them living with his domineering former PE teacher.

Bloody Sunday - Bloody Sunday depics the 1972 massacre in Northern Ireland, when members of the British Parachute Regiment shot and killed 13 unarmed demonstrators.

Babylon - The Met’s new director of communications, Liz Garvey, faces a baptism by fire when a sniper goes on a shooting spree during her first day on the job.

Locke - Over the space of 90 minutes, Ivan Locke’s life spins out of control via a series of phone calls made while he drives down the highway to London.
