Could Tom Hiddleston Be The New James Bond After All?

By now, we’ve all heard that Daniel Craig allegedly turned down $100 million to play James Bond again, adding fuel to the fire that he’s done with the character (though I think saying he’d rather slit his wrists than do another one was a good enough indication). If it is indeed true, Eon Productions and producers Barbara Broccoli and Micheal G. Wilson will no doubt waste no time finding a replacement, and the rumour mill has turned once again, with Birth.Movies.Death reporting that Tom Hiddleston, the fan’s favourite to slip into the tuxedo, is in ‘advanced talks’ to take on the role of cinema’s most famous super spy.

Hiddleston himself hasn’t been shy about letting people know how much he wants the role, so if talks are indeed taking place, don’t be surprised if they’re done with quite quickly. And if the man everyone knows as Loki does indeed strap on the Walther PPK, expect a very different Bond from Craig. Our Bond for the last four movies was a psychically imposing, emotionally battered bruiser, and Hiddleston may be a great actor, but he’s so charming and affable that it’ll be tough to pull that character off. With Skyfall and Spectre indicating a return to a more old school approach to the Bond franchise, a more old school Bond may be on the cards. I can certainly see Hiddleston with the charm of Connery, spitting out one liners to rival Moore. But, as always, all we can do is peculate at this stage.
