Wolverine 3 Has Begun Filming

While the latest X-Men: Apocalypse trailer teased the return of everyone's favourite rage fuelled mutant, all eyes are on next year’s Wolverine 3, which sees Hugh Jackman finally hanging up the adamantium claws sixteen years after making his debut as the iconic character in X-Men. And thanks to Collider, we have some exciting news: Wolverine 3 has already begun filming. Catching up with producer Simon Kinberg at the X-Men: Apocalypse press day in London, the news site was able to squeeze this nugget of information out of him:

“I’m not sure what I’m allowed to say about that. I will agree with you that Patrick Stewart was rumored to be a part of that film. It takes place in the future, and as you and others have reported, it is an R-rated movie. It’s violent, it’s kind of like a western in its tone. It’s just a very cool, different film.”

So not only have cameras begun rolling, with James Mangold once again at the helm, long standing rumours of Jackman’s final go-around as the character being R-Rated have turned out to be true. Of course, the success of Deadpool has paved the way for studios to toy with the idea of giving their superheroes more adult friendly ratings, Wolverine is one character where it feels totally right (think of all that glorious violence). Baby steps were taken with the Blu-Ray release of The Wolverine, but this will be the first time, the Canadian mutant will have an R-Rated adventure on the big screen.

Very little is know about the sequel at this time, but confirmation that it is set in the future seems to point to the movie adapting the fan favourite story arc Old Man Logan, proving previous rumours right. Rumours also abound that X-23, a younger, female clone of Wolverine will be making an appearance. All we at this point in time is the cast that includes Boyd Holbrook (The Host, Gone Girl) as the movies main villain, Richard E. Grant, Richard E. Grant, Stephen Merchant, Elise Neal (Scream 2), and E.R.’s Eriq La Salle. While Kinberg won’t reveal if Patrick Stewart will in fact be reprising the role of Professor X, Liev Schreiber has previously revealed that he was in talks to once again take on the role of Sabretooth.

Whatever Wolverine 3 ends up being called, it is set for release March 3rd 2017.
