Natalie Portman Is ‘Done’ With Marvel Movies

Despite playing a big role in Thor and Thor: The Dark World, Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster has only received passing mentions in the God of Thunder’s non-solo outings, with Avengers: Age of Ultron suggesting the the pair had broken up, a strange turn of events since The Dark World made such a big deal of bringing them together. With Thor: Ragnarok being almost exclusively set in the cosmos, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige says there’s no room for Foster in the story, which makes us ask the question: is this the last we’ve seen of Natalie Portman in the MCU? According to the woman herself, yes. During an interview with The Wall Street Journal, the actress revealed that her time in the uber-successful shared universe has come to and end:

As far as I know, I’m done. I don’t know if, maybe one day, they’ll ask for an Avengers 7 or whatever. I have no idea! But as far as I know I’m done. But it was a great thing to be a part of.

In something as sprawling as the MCU, if you’re playing second fiddle to the main hero, it is hard to know whether or not you’ll be back again for another installment or cameo, but Foster was presented as a huge part of the Thor mythos that is kinda odd that she won’t return. Her appearances did suggest that the MCU did’t know what to do with the character, who was probably a bit too down to Earth for the dimension spanning tales the movies wanted to tell, and the inclusion of Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie, a resident of Asgard who had a relationship with Thor in the comics, in Ragnarok does hint that a replacement may have been found in the love interest stakes.
