Saturday night saw the animated stars grace tinsel town for the 39th annual international animated film society or Annie awards. The event held in UCLA’s Royce Hall was hosted by Young Adult star Patton Oswald and gave away awards in 28 different categories. The big winner on the night, taking home the award for best animated feature film was Oscar nominated Rango; the story of a chameleon voiced by Johnny Depp who becomes the Sherriff of a small town.

Rango beat out Pixar’s cars 2, Amblin's Tintin, Dreamworks offerings Kung Fu Panda 2 and Puss in Boots as well as Oscar hopeful A Cat in Paris . John Logan, Gore Verbinski and James Byrkit took home Rango’s second award for best writing in a feature. The other big award on the night went to Bill Nighy who won for best voice in an animated feature for his role as Grandsanta in Arthur’s Christmas.

It is hard to say if Rango will take home the Oscar in a few weeks time, but certainly this night belonged to the little green hero with Craig Wood taking home the award for editing in a feature film to round off a glorious night for the Paramount and Nickelodeon production.
