Peyton Reed To Return For Ant-Man And The Wasp

While he got the job after some controversy, director Peyton Reed did an admirable job with Ant-Man, taking a character unknown to the mainstream audience and turning one of the most fun and endearing instalments of the MCU. Now, it looks like he’ll be getting another shot at the character, with news coming from The Hollywood Reporter that he is in negotiations to helm the 2018 sequel, Ant-Man and The Wasp, which delivers on the promise of a bigger role for Evangeline Lily’s Hope van Dyne from the original’s mid-credit stinger (sorry).

While, yes, many people were hoping the sequel would see Marvel Studio’s try to mend some bridges with Ant-Man’s original director and co-writer Edgar Wright, Reed is still a great choice for the sequel. Of course, he has experience with the character, but he did bring a lot of great ideas to the table first time (your favourite part of the movie, Luis' retelling of conversations he had? That was Reed). Wright’s departure did have a knock-on effect in regards to the script, with Paul Rudd and Adam McKay coming on to rewrite his and Joe Cornish’s draft. The narrative problems were clearly evident (but didn’t hurt the movie too much), so with a script free of any outside problems, Ant-Man and The Wasp has a much better chance this time round, and there’s plenty of opportunity for Reed to go bigger and better this time round (Giant-Man. Just saying).

Ant-Man and The Wasp is set for release July 6th 2018.
